How they prepared for UPSC CSE 2023
Growing up in Ranchi, Jharkhand, I was always fascinated by the world of governance and policy-making. My parents, both government employees, instilled in me a strong sense of public service and the importance of making a difference in society. I pursued a degree in Anthropology, which not only deepened my understanding of social dynamics but also helped me develop a unique perspective on the world.
When I decided to take the UPSC exam, I knew I had to create a rigorous study plan. I started by setting clear goals for myself, both short-term and long-term. I allocated specific time slots for each subject, making sure to leave some buffer time for revision and practice. I also joined a coaching institute, which provided me with valuable guidance and resources.
Cracking the UPSC exam is no easy feat, and I faced my fair share of challenges along the way. One of the biggest hurdles was managing my time effectively. With a demanding study schedule, it was easy to get overwhelmed and lose focus. I had to learn to prioritize my tasks, delegate responsibilities when possible, and take breaks to avoid burnout.
So, what worked for me? Here are some key strategies that helped me succeed:
Develop a strong foundation in current affairs: Staying up-to-date with national and international news is crucial for the UPSC exam. I made it a point to read newspapers, watch news channels, and follow reputable sources on social media.
Focus on conceptual understanding: The UPSC exam is not just about memorizing facts; it's about applying your knowledge to real-world scenarios. I made sure to understand the underlying concepts and principles behind each topic.
Practice, practice, practice: The more you practice, the better you'll become at applying your knowledge. I took regular mock tests, solved previous year's papers, and participated in online forums to stay engaged and motivated.
Stay healthy and motivated: Taking care of your physical and mental health is essential for success. I made sure to exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and get enough sleep. I also surrounded myself with positive people who encouraged and supported me throughout my journey.
The interview experience was both exhilarating and intimidating. I had to answer a series of questions that tested my knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills. I remember feeling nervous at first, but as the conversation flowed, I began to relax and enjoy the exchange. The panelists were friendly and approachable, and they asked me questions that made me think deeply about my values and goals.
Securing AIR 90 in 2024 was a dream come true. It was a culmination of all my hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I remember feeling a mix of emotions - relief, joy, and gratitude. I was grateful to my family, friends, and mentors who had supported me throughout my journey. I was also grateful to the UPSC exam, which had pushed me to grow and learn in ways I never thought possible.
The journey doesn't end here. I'm now serving as an IRS (C&IT) Officer, and I'm committed to making a positive impact in society. I hope my story inspires others to pursue their dreams and never give up on their aspirations.
