Growing up in a humble background, I always knew the value of hard work and determination. My parents, though not educated themselves, encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I was fascinated by the Indian Civil Services and wanted to make a difference in the country. I started preparing for the UPSC exam during my engineering days, but it wasn't until my third attempt that I finally cracked it.
My study plan was quite rigorous. I would wake up at 5 am every day and start with a 2-hour study session. I would then take a break and come back to my studies in the evening. I focused on my weak areas, particularly Geography and Polity, and made sure to cover all the topics thoroughly. I also made it a point to read the newspapers and current events daily to stay updated.
The biggest challenge I faced was managing my time effectively. With a full-time job and a family to take care of, it was difficult to balance my studies and personal life. I had to make sacrifices, like giving up on social events and spending less time with my family. But I was determined to succeed and didn't let anything come in my way.
One of the key strategies that helped me was creating a study schedule and sticking to it. I also made sure to take breaks and not burn out. I joined a study group and participated in online forums to stay motivated and learn from others. I also made sure to review my notes regularly and make flashcards to help me remember key concepts.
The interview experience was nerve-wracking, but I was well-prepared. I had practiced answering common interview questions and was confident in my knowledge. I was asked questions on my optional subject, Sociology, and was able to answer them confidently. The panel members were friendly and asked me questions that tested my knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Securing the 916th rank in the UPSC CSE 2023 was a dream come true. It was a result of my hard work and determination. I was proud of myself for overcoming the challenges I faced and achieving my goal. I hope my story inspires others to pursue their dreams and never give up on their aspirations.
