Growing up, I was always fascinated by the world of governance and politics. My parents, both government servants, would often share stories about their work, which sparked my interest in the field. I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in the civil services.
My journey to the UPSC CSE exam began with a solid foundation in academics. I completed my B.Com (Hons) from SRCC, which provided me with a strong understanding of commerce and accountancy. I then started preparing for the UPSC exam, dedicating at least 8-10 hours a day to studying.
My study plan consisted of a mix of theory and practice. I would spend the morning studying theory, covering topics such as history, geography, and polity. In the afternoon, I would focus on practicing questions from previous years' exams, as well as current affairs.
One of the biggest challenges I faced during my preparation was time management. With a demanding study schedule, it was easy to get overwhelmed and lose focus. I had to learn to prioritize my tasks and manage my time effectively.
Another challenge I faced was dealing with self-doubt. There were times when I felt like I wasn't good enough, or that I wasn't making progress. But I learned to push through those feelings and focus on my goals.
So, what worked for me? Here are a few key strategies that I employed during my preparation:
Focus on understanding concepts: Rather than just memorizing facts, I made sure to understand the underlying concepts and principles.
Practice, practice, practice: I practiced as many questions as I could, from previous years' exams, as well as current affairs.
Stay updated with current affairs: I made sure to stay up-to-date with current events, both nationally and internationally.
Network with peers: I connected with other aspirants and mentors, who provided me with valuable guidance and support.
The interview experience was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. I was asked a range of questions, from my favorite subject to my views on current events. I tried to be as honest and authentic as possible, while also showcasing my knowledge and skills.
Securing 342nd rank in the UPSC CSE exam 2023 was a dream come true. It was the culmination of all my hard work and dedication. I was overjoyed and relieved, knowing that all my efforts had paid off.
Looking back, I realize that success is not just about achieving a good rank, but also about the journey itself. It's about the lessons you learn, the people you meet, and the experiences you have along the way.
